These changes in mitochondria structure and number may explain the persistence of HBOT’s benefits after therapy ends. HBOT increases the perfusion and oxygenation to the brain, allows “idling” brain cells to regain function, and has a potent anti-inflammatory effect. That may be why HBOT is successful in improving function in individuals with disease associated with poor perfusion and neuro-inflammation such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, visual impairment, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and fibromyalgia.
