The above 19 year experience with HBOT 1.5, animal study, and 5 servicemen cohort were presented at a meeting with the Navy Surgeon General on 8/15/2008. It was decided that well-documented pilot data is necessary to move the medical profession toward adoption of HBOT 1.5 for past and present returning casualties from the present wars. This study is directed to that end. It is an uncontrolled open-label pilot trial of HBOT in 2 groups: 15 chronic mild TBI (post-concussion syndrome) subjects and 15 mild TBI/PTSD subjects. Outcome measurements will be psychometric testing, SPECT brain imaging, and quality of life measures. The principal investigator is Paul G. Harch, M.D., Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and director of the Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship, Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans. The study was granted full approval by the LSU IRB on 8/17/2008. If fully funded this pilot trial should be completed in 3-4 months.
