Just when I thought that insomnia was just about lying in bed awake past bedtime, I find out that it is more than that. According to sleep specialists, there are about 11 types of insomnia. Yes, eleven! For starters, general insomnia is defined as a category of sleep disorders in which people have trouble falling asleep (sleep-onset insomnia), staying asleep (sleep maintaining insomnia) or waking up too early (early morning awakening). Insomnia is also defined as an overall poor quality of sleep.

One of those 11 types of insomnia is called Adjustment insomnia or Acute or Short-Term insomnia. What happens with adjustment insomnia is that it disturbs sleep and usually happens because of stress. So that when the source of stress ends adjustment insomnia also ends. The stress talked about here does not necessarily mean to be coming from a negative experience. Positive experiences that make you too excited can also contribute to having adjustment insomnia.

Adjustment insomnia, though, can be treated by one of the known alternative medications today, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is about placing a patient in a transparent, airtight hyperbaric chamber that has increased atmospheric pressure.
