Mad cow disease, also known as Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease (CJD) is known to be caused by small protein structures called prions. These prions are found in brain tissue of cows and other animals and are known to be virtually indestructible. They are unaffected by enzymes, heat or radiation. Given the long period of latency between being exposed to CJD and getting symptoms, it is possible that millions of people are now infected with CJD. This is a frightening prospect since CJD causes incredible pain and brain damage and invariably fatal in 14 months.

Prions are a natural component of animal tissue and may actually provide an antioxidant function. It is only when prions are converted from their PrPc form to their PrPsc form that they cause disease. Recent evidence suggests that healthy prions (PrPc ) are bound to the mineral copper whereas the pathological prions (PrPsc) are bound to the mineral manganese.

Indeed concentrations of CJD are found where the soil is low in copper and high in manganese and CJD patients have 10 times the levels of manganese as those without CJD.

Since EDTA will bind and remove toxic manganese, EDTA may prevent CJD or Mad Cow Disease.

HYPERBARIC TREATMENT FOR STROKE

Swelling of tissues, resulting in lack of blood flow and oxygen, often accompany the death of cells in brain tissues in stroke patients. Hyperbaric pressurizes the environment to allow oxygen to better penetrate parts of the body where blood flow is hindered. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy alleviates ischemia and hypoxia, which are defined as lack of blood flow and oxygen. In addition, the therapy decreases swelling of chronically traumatized areas of the brain as well as other swollen tissues.

Oxygen is dissolved in the plasma and nourishes tissues, regardless of the absence of red blood cells, when hyperbaric oxygen therapy is utilized. The pressurized chamber forces oxygen into all areas of the body, resulting in a re-awakening of dormant areas of the brain prevalent in persons who have suffered a stroke.

Hyperbaric therapy is also known to regenerate new blood vessels to damaged areas of the brain and aids in the repair and restoration of glial cells, extracellular matrix and injured neurons.
